Quit Smoking Aids

Many people who are trying to quit smoking go "cold turkey." That is, they just stop abruptly without the use of any quit smoking aids that are widely available to them. There may be medical reasons for this, or some may simply feel as if they "should" be able to quit on their own.

There are many benefits to quitting smoking aids, especially the fact that they can help to take the edge off of your cravings if you have had trouble quitting cold turkey. Depending on the type of aid you decide to use, you may find that you not only break your addiction to nicotine, but also your addiction to the motions of smoking (which is even harder to break, according to leading experts).

Some people may succeed with nicotine patches or nicotine gum and some won't. It varies from one person to another. These people are often in a dilemma and they are usually the ones that end up smoking again and again. There are tens if not hundreds of smoking aids available on the market today, some may work for you and some may be a total failure. You have the choice to chose, however one thing is important: Your will power!

Acupuncture is a stop smoking aid that has received very little attention. Acupuncture has proven effective in reducing or eliminating a person's urge to smoke. Theories suggest that the technique works by affecting a person's craving for nicotine and has also been reported to help the body repair damage caused by smoking. Even if this quit smoking aid doesn't completely control a person's desire to smoke, it usually at least reduces the amount of cigarettes they smoke.

Aids such as this are often available as gum a patch hidden on your arm or sometimes a spray or inhaler. Using aids such as this is known as Nicotine Replacement Therapy, also called NRT and they work by allowing nicotine to enter a smoker's system without the use of a cigarette. The nicotine enters the smoker's body slowly instead of the instant hit of a cigarette and this gradually removes the urge to smoke full stop.

Besides as a good natural quit smoking aid, Peppermint has the added advantage of reducing breathing problem and respiratory distress which related with your smoking habit. This herb not only cleans out your lungs, it's also reducing the craving for nicotine. You can make peppermint tea or use the leaves and extracts for aromatherapy to stop smoking.

The next best thing is the Nicotine Replacement therapy. This helps to compensate the nicotine withdrawal discomfort by giving recommended doses of nicotine. These therapies contain only nicotine, unlike cigarettes that contain numerous carcinogens and poisonous chemicals. When used according to the manufacturer's guidelines, this allows one to gradually withdraw from nicotine by reducing its amount in the daily doses. Most popular in this is the Nicotine patch method. The other aids are Nicotine gum, Nicotine Inhaler, Nicotine Lozenges and Nicotine Nasal Spray.
