Corbett National Park

Dhikala is located at the edge of the Patli Dun valley through which the Ramganga River flows. It presents an awesome view of the valley with the Kanda ridge acting as its backdrop. If you watch this site from the watchtower near Dhikala it seems to be all the more impressing. You can even visit the Dhikala chaur and the Phulai chaur. A drive through these chaurs will enable you to view various wildlife animals. Another popular spot of Dikhla is the old rest house which is a historic structure built over a hundred years ago.

The Climate of the park is temperate which is compared to the other park or the other protected areas of the country. The temperature of the Park may vary from 5 degree C to 30 degree C. The summer temperature do not rise above 40 degree C. Rainfall ranges from light to heavy during the monsoons.

The main attraction of the Corbett National Park is of course the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. The dense jungles, natural water-holes and the Ramganga river and an adequate prey-base make this reserve an ideal habitat for the tiger, which however is not very easily spotted.Leopards and smaller felines like the jungle cat, fishing cat and the leopard cat are residents of this jungle but the cat family in general is very elusive. Other mammals include the deer family (barking deer, sambar, black buck and chital), the Sloth Bear and the Himalayan Black bears, mongooses,otters, goat-antelpoes, langurs and rhesus monkeys.

The Corbett Tiger Reserve offers many thrilling adventure activities that include, among others, fishing and angling, elephant safari, and jeep safari to its visitors. Elephant safari and jeep safari enable the visitors to explore the park and enjoy great views of the dense jungles and its many inhabitants.

The Sal and Sheesam is the most important characters of the north India is the timber trees which is grown in abundance in North India. The green leaves of Rohini which is an associate tree of the Sal and is the favorite for the elephants in the park. The another floral characteristic of the Corbett national park is the 'Charus' better known as the flat grassy blank of herbs and tall and short grasses which works as the grazing ground for the herbivores. Another important plant of the Corbett National Park which is found along the nullahs and ravines that provides both the fodder for the wilds of the Corbett National Park.

Kumaon as a region was greatly troubled by man-eating tigers. It was then that a famous hunter came to the rescue and hunted down many of those dreaded creatures. Since then he was revered highly by the villagers. However, Corbett was not only into hunting those glorious creatures down. He worked hard for their conservation too. He brought fame to the region by his book, the Man eaters of Kumaon. It is said that he shot wildlife more with his camera than with his gun. It was Corbett who started a campaign to save the tigers which later led to the marking out of this reserve

Local performance and folk music can be arranged with the staff. They have trained jeep drivers and naturalists which will guide you through birding walks, jungle visits and natural history activities. Activities you'll enjoy here include Mahaseer fishing, wildlife viewing through jeep rides or elephant rides, bird watching either on foot or on a jeep, nature walks and angling.
