Sciatic Nerve Pain Causes

Sciatica is a condition that triggers severe pain starting from the lumbar region and extending downwards. It may impact the region around the knee, along with causing pain in the lower legs. The pain or numbness can range from mild to severe. If you're one of the unfortunate individuals suffering from this condition, it's important that you understand the sciatic nerve pain causes and treatment options.

Sciatica can sometimes be resolved by undergoing simple physical therapy and avoiding the intake of medicine. The most common sciatic nerve pain treatment is bed rest this offers relief for bones and joints that are aching. Some physicians suggest sciatica physical therapy in the way of specific exercises, or some may simply suggest walking and to move about slowly this will loosen the muscle and reduce the pain slightly. In some patients this may not work out as a good treatment. Sciatic nerve pain treatment is prescribed by painkillers, anti-inflammatory medication, epidural injections, osteopathy or chiropractic.

Pain in the sciatic nerve is often caused by neurological pain which in turn may be linked to age, genetics or general lifestyle. Some people are genetically predisposed to have sciatic pain while some are not. Some people develop bouts with the painful condition after some elements in the overall scheme of things has changed. For example, if person A has changed jobs and the second job is actually very stressful, then there just might be a chance that the pain will begin in that area of the body.

This cause is also called as contained disc disorder. In this case the gel like nucleus pulposus will remain contained within the annulus fibrosus. When a disc bulges it results in the presses the adjacent nerve roots and thus compresses the delicate tissues. This is found out to the primary cause for sciatica. Similar thing also happened when disk herniates.

The sciatica pain slowly begins due to the lifestyle and habits necessary created by the pain of CPB. It is a prolonged onset of symptoms culminating in the secondary diagnosis of "sciatica" or "sciatic pain". Treatment is aimed at maximizing mobility and independence. Treatment is conservative in as many as 50% of all cases and sciatic pain will greatly diminish or disappear within a month with supportive treatments and proper stretching. Sciatic nerve pain relief has been found using moist heat in combination with stretching exercises such as hip swings ( face down, heels together, hips flat as you swing your legs back and forth to stretch the muscles).

The most common cause of sciatica is a disc bulge. The disc is a very misunderstood structure; it has been blamed for back pain ever since it was discovered. Over the years we have started to believe that the disc is a really weak and vulnerable structure.

Sciatic nerve pain is a signal that something is wrong at some point along the sciatic nerve, usually but not always at the nerve root, where the nerve exits the spinal canal, and it is that condition which needs to be addressed. In the previous two articles, we discussed several of the reasons why a back, leg, and at times ankle and foot pain sufferer may experience sciatic nerve pain.
