Scabies is a skin condition that causes the sufferer to itch. The said itching is caused when Sarcoptes scabiei, and eight-legged mite burrows into the person's skin. It is a contagious condition and may spread rapidly via close physical contact in a group of people, as in the family, school class, nursing home, or child care group. Because of how easily scabies can be transmitted to others, doctors usually recommend treatment for whole groups of people who are in close physical contact to get rid of the mite.
First of all, your doctor will diagnose you on the basis of your presentation of the symptoms. In initial stages, scabies looks like other skin diseases such as eczema or syphilis making it difficult to diagnose. But your doctor looks for borrows and mites and their eggs under the microscope. Doctor can also look for areas having intense itching and do ink test to find the burrows and usually gets zig-zag or S pattern confirming the diagnosis.
With scabies you may first itch before you notice the rash. Common spots are the arm pits, webs of fingers, wrists, stomach area and buttocks. Kids can get scabies on their faces but adults generally don't. You may also see the little burrow lines that are white, grey or red where the female egg zig zags under your skin to lay the eggs. These are difficult to see due to their thinness.
If you are asking your doctor to explain exactly What is Scabies, than you might be on the right track. If you are not well versed in sexually transmitted diseases and are not looking to be a walking encyclopedia on these things, you are going to be glad to know that your doctor can put these things into easy to swallow explanations. You do not want to learn about these things when it is too late. It is interesting to note that people that have had this disease, are woken up to their sexual health far better than people that haven't gotten this devastating disease.
Scabies Rash, usually is not something you want to play with. You do not want to mess around with this pubic problem, and allow this to get worse. Things really do get bad if you do not get them looked at. Sexually transmitted diseases are like a lot of other physical ailments, in that if you do not react with proper speed and authority, you will not get better in a proper manner. These sorts of rashes are not normal, and you should not take them with stride and put on whatever you find over the counter.
The majority of symptoms generated by scabies occur as a consequence of allergic reactions to the mites' secretions and eggs. The mites feed on human blood and they contaminate the skin with their bites, releasing substances that are toxic to the human body. Once they burrow within the epidermis, scabies mites cause inflammation, rashes and itch. If scabies is not discovered in time, the mite infestation can generate serious symptoms such as skin lesions and ulcerations, formation of crust, painful nodules, blisters and pustules.
As an extra precaution, all the people who have entered in contact with patients diagnosed with scabies also need to follow an appropriate medical treatment, even if they don't show any clear signs of contamination. Scabies has an incubation period of around 1-2 weeks and most symptoms occur within this period of time. Once the parasite mites contaminate the skin, the first signs of scabies are skin inflammation, rash and persistent itch.
